The Inaugural Leadbetter Kids World Championship
On July 15, 2018 Leadbetter Golf Academy (LGA) hosted their first-ever Leadbetter Kids World Championship and it was a massive hit! Sixteen participants spanning four countries participated in this inaugural three-day event. We saw low scores, including a hole-in-one, and excellent golf.
On day one, players arrived late in the afternoon to receive their gift bags and participate in the Leadbetter Kids skills challenge. The skills challenge included a putting competition, closest to the pin, bunker challenge, and a chip and catch team event. This was a great ice breaker for all of our young participants to meet each other and have some fun before the tournament weekend ahead.
Day two consisted of nine holes of stroke play for both the 9 and under division and the 10-12 year old division. The lowest nine hole score came from 10-12 year old division champion Sam Brown, shooting a 34.
Day three was the final day of the event and concluded with eighteen holes of stroke play for the 10-12 year old division and another nine holes of stroke play for the 9 and under division. We saw incredible golf on day two including 9 and under champion, Rebecca Wang, shooting an eagle followed by a hole-in-one on National Course Par 3 12th. Sam Brown secured the 10-12 year old division victory with a final round score of 73.
David Leadbetter was honored to host the inaugural Leadbetter Kids World Championship at his World Headquarters.
“We are thrilled to continue the growth of the game by welcoming young juniors to tournament play through our Leadbetter Kids World Championship. Thank you to all of the parents for taking the time and traveling from near and far to attend our inaugural event. The first year was a big success and we look forward to hosting many more of these events in the future. ”
